Nice Try

So let me be the first to say that I am in no way, shape or form a good cook. So what made me decide to try and make Russell's 1st birthday, birthday cake ... I don't know. I think it was the back to back episode of Ace of Cakes that I watched on Thursday night. So I've completely stolen Shandra's farm theme from Blake's 1st birthday to use with Russell. I even found the cute animal cupcakes. Don't worry, I'm not even going to attempt those. What I was attempting to make, was a barn silo. I thought that would be cute as the cake that Russell gets to tear into. After all, it's just cake stacked up and icing slapped on the side, right?!?!

I was so determined to do this, that I broke out the Kitchenaid mixer!

So far, so good.

I should have taken this as a sign to just give up.

And here's my halfway finished product. Yes, I finally gave up when I couldn't figure out a top. Probably should've thought about that early, huh? So what I've decided to do ... is ask a professional to make Russell's cake. But I had fun trying!

This was Russell attempting to help mommy, but he kept getting distracted and then finally decided to just kiss his reflection.
