I finally feel like life is starting to calm down. Everyone's big question for me and Luis is, "So how's married life treating you?". Before now, I haven't been able to really say anything good, but now, we're actually getting to enjoy being married. We think that the whole credit card fraud thing is done and overwith. Well, according to the detective it is. The guy who stole our stuff turned out to be an employee of the hotel. To my knowledge, they've not even figured out who it is but we think that once they got our info, started either selling it or giving it out to buddies. One of our charges was for a Uhaul in Kansas. So according to the detective, we no longer have a case. We were able to cancel our card fast enough that none of the charges that showed up as "preauthorizations" went through and so we didn't loose any money. Since we didn't loose any money, we're no longer victims. So even if they catch the person, we have no rights to press charges!!! I was absolutely speechless. I could not believe what this detective guy was actually telling me. Apparently, in any case of credit card fraud, once the individual is paid back, the individual is no longer a victim. The companies that take a loss have now become the victim. And in our case, what's the use in Uhaul getting their lawyers involved to press charges over $120. He told me that most scammers get away with scamming because no one will press charges. So at this point, the only thing that we're a victim of is invasion of privacy!
So anyway, on to happy news ... we've decided to buy a house! The house that we're in now is Luis's moms house (NO, she doesn't live with us) and it's just falling apart around us. His mom only bought it 4 years ago but, due to all the problems were finding with it, I'm almost positive that it was not inspected. We were preapproved for a loan on Tuesday and found a couple of houses tonight that we want to tour. There's a new subdivision going up right across the street from the kids school. It's all just a few streets over from where we are now but if we can pay the same amount and be in something brand new, we're going to take it. We're both really excited about having "our house".
Well, that's it from the Prato household!
